Honestly, we're kinda obsessed with making buildings that don't trash the planet
Look, we've been doing this architecture thing for a while now, and there's no denying it anymore - the old way of building just doesn't cut it. Every project we take on, we're thinking about what it means 50 years down the line. Not just for the building itself, but for the folks living in it and the neighborhood around it.
Vancouver's given us this incredible backdrop to work with. The mountains, the ocean, the forests - it'd be pretty hypocritical to design buildings that ignore all that natural beauty, right? So we don't. We've made it our mission to create spaces that actually work WITH the environment instead of against it.
It started maybe 10 years back when a client asked us to design their home with net-zero energy in mind. We dove deep into it - passive solar orientation, thermal mass, the whole deal - and honestly? We haven't looked back since. That project opened our eyes to what's possible when you really commit to sustainable principles from day one.
We've earned our stripes in green building, and we're pretty proud of these
Multiple LEED APs on our team with Gold & Platinum project experience
Certified Passive House designers creating ultra-efficient buildings
Active members of Canada Green Building Council since 2012
Pursuing Living Building Challenge on select projects
It's not just about slapping some solar panels on a roof and calling it a day. We're talking about a whole different approach to how we think about buildings.
Before we even think about HVAC systems, we're working with building orientation, natural ventilation, and smart glazing. It's amazing how much you can accomplish with good design before technology even enters the picture.
Rainwater harvesting, greywater systems, drought-resistant landscaping - we're constantly looking for ways to use less and reuse more. Vancouver gets plenty of rain, so why not put it to work?
We've built relationships with suppliers who get it - reclaimed wood, recycled steel, low-VOC finishes, locally-sourced materials when possible. Every choice adds up.
Not gonna lie - sustainable design can be more challenging upfront. It takes more planning, more coordination, sometimes a bit more budget. But here's what we've learned over the years: it pays off. Not just in lower utility bills (though those are nice), but in better air quality, more comfortable spaces, and buildings that actually hold their value.
We've had clients come back years later telling us their energy bills are a fraction of their neighbors', or that they haven't had to replace major systems because we built things right the first time. That's the kind of feedback that keeps us going.
Let's Talk Sustainable Design
We don't just talk green - we've been living it for years
We use energy modeling software from the very first sketches. No guessing - we know how your building's gonna perform before we break ground.
Our sustainability consultant isn't some outside contractor - they're part of our core team, involved in every project from day one.
We check back in after a year to see how the building's actually performing. It helps us learn and do even better on the next project.
We know how to prioritize. Can't do everything? We'll help you figure out which sustainable features give you the biggest bang for your buck.
